Heather wreath - and how to make your own wreath form
A heather wreath. Yes I love a good wreath. Here are some other wreaths that I have made:
But back to this wreath. I talked about our trip to Denmark and showed you this picture where we visited some friends of my parents and stayed at their fabulous summer house.
Their summer house lot is huge and it is overgrown with wild heather.
So when I was there, as I have done many times before when visiting them, I got out a basket and picked some.
I also picked some tall grasses for the wreath form.
Here is photo proof that we are talking a very long standing tradition. Here I am in 1985. My legs seemingly longer then, the hair blonder and I was a lean, mean wreath making machine A teenager with that "don't take my picture" look, right? ) You can just make out the side of their summer house in the background there.
I made my own wreath form for the wreath by making a circle out of some of the long grasses I cut, then I wrapped wire around it to secure.
Then I started adding little lumps of heather.
Working my way all the way around.
Just before coming back to the starting point, I started tucking the ends of the heather under the first heather.
On the back I made couple of loops and secured them together for hanging it later.
Here is the finished wreath. I hung it outside for the main picture, but we later hung it inside in their living room. It will last about 3-6 months and it dries up beautifully keeping its color and shape very well.
Look at the gorgeous lamb roast our gracious hosts had prepared for us. Yum! Isn't a wreath the least you can do in return? Or bring red wine, like my parents did. Both work
That sunset deserves all its own picture!
We had such a great time there.
