Dare to deck the halls - DIY miniature Christmas tree
Today is the last of our four weeks of Dare to DIY. I never met a challenge I didn't like and this has been so much fun.
Today's project is a continuation of my white and brown nature inspired Christmas. I started out right after Thanksgiving transforming my Merci Beaucoup Thanksgiving vignette into a similar but all white and brown Christmas vignette and making my Christmas table felt tree village to match. Both here.
For Deck the Halls I made this DIY miniature Christmas tree with string lights for my console table.
Be sure to check out what my co-hosts have made for this challenge as well. Kim from Newly Woodwards made a DIY Tree wall hanging, Rachel from Maybe Matilda made these Merry and Bright blocks and Michelle from Decor and the Dog made a Christmas tree 'for sale' sign.
It was super easy too. I went to Lowe's and bought a little Rosemary bush already trimmed into a cone shape. Then I took it to one of the tree lots in our city and asked if they would flock it. The first place had a policy of only flocking their own tree, but the second place I checked would do it for 5 dollars. Awesome!
Here is a video of it being flocked. Might have to play it from the site itself.
The rosemary bush when I bought it - on the left and immediately after flocking - on right.
It took at least a full day for the flocking to dry. When it did, it became more solid and more white. I gave that red pot two coats of white paint.
Then I added white string lights and a gold star to the top and a little rose pine cone at the top. Aren't those pine cone looking roses darling? They look like it is something you made, when in fact it just came off the tree that way. B's preschool teacher's neighbor has a tree and she got me a little bag of them several years ago.
I added some more string lights to the pictures on the gallery wall above and changed out all the accessories to brown and white ones. I used a lot of natural materials like wood, glass, feathers, sheep skin and pine cones.
Now it is time to share your creations for our Dare to deck the halls challenge. Link up your post back to any or all of the four co-hosts, then head on over to Newly Woodwards and upload your project to the link party!
Feel free to use this graphic in your post! I can't wait to see what you have made. We will be back on Friday to feature a couple of our favorites!
