Welcome
Here are some projects that my son B made when he was homeschooled.Starting the new year with a new project - evolution
Categories: Home Schooling
We are using Story of the World by Susan Wise Bauer for history and some geography and social studies. We started this year with the first book: Ancient Times.
(Medival Times pictured here) Read about the numbers here
Ancient times begins only about as far back as about 7000-10000 years BC. We have been interested in going even farther back.
DH had this graphic on his Facebook page the other day from I f***ing love science. Excuse my language
B found this chart fascinating.
Then someone on our Homeschooling boards posted the Master Story of the World Netflix movie guide. I checked out the list and thought that a couple of movies would be a great way to start school back up after the long Christmas break, so we saw Walking with Cavemen I & II.
ETA: I just saw a link to a blog with chapter by chapter movies. It looks terrific!
B was glued to the screen.
Unrelated to this, I later asked him if he thought it would be a good idea to start a new longer project and he agreed. I gave him the parameters:
I printed out the chart for him and he started taking notes in his note book and began his bibliography. We made a folder and marked it "Evolution".
This ties in great with our trip to the Zoological Museum in Copenhagen in September where B got to examine all these ancient types of sculls.
I am now thinking we need to schedule a trip to the Museum of Man in San Diego in the spring as well.
I am already loving this unit study a whole lot!

Unrelated to this, I later asked him if he thought it would be a good idea to start a new longer project and he agreed. I gave him the parameters:
- Come up with a theme
- Make a topic sentence and an outline
- Research to include books from the library, videos, internet
- Decide what the product should be: report, pop-up book, poster or...?
- Product to include writing and images
- Product should include a bibliography
- Finish in about 1-2 months at the most.
